Lycia Therapeutics, established in 2019, is a biotechnology firm focused on the degradation of extracellular proteins to address a range of diseases. Lycia's LYTACs are bifunctional molecules designed to overcome this limitation. One part of the LYTAC binds to a disease-causing extracellular protein, and the other part binds to a cell surface receptor that traffics to the lysosome, the cell's natural waste disposal system. This mechanism effectively captures and drags target proteins into the cell to be destroyed by the lysosome. This approach enables the degradation of previously "undruggable" targets, offering potential treatments for a wide array of conditions, including cancer, autoimmune diseases, and inflammatory disorders.
