Voice AI startup Rime launches Prism after $24M Series A
What's the deal? Rime, a San Francisco enterprise voice AI company, launched Prism on October 28, 2026, a speech-to-speech model it bills as the first fine-tunable frontier model built for business use. The launch follows a $24 million Series A the company closed in July 2026.
How Prism works: The model takes in audio and produces audio, skipping the traditional relay of separate transcription, reasoning, and voice systems. Its distinguishing feature is a text checkpoint: before Prism speaks, it generates written output that a company's rules can review, creating an audit trail.
Why now? Enterprises in regulated sectors have hesitated to deploy monolithic voice models over compliance, latency, and hallucination risks. Prism can be fine-tuned on a client's own data and deployed in a private cloud or on-premises, addressing those concerns.
Who's behind it? Rime was founded by chief executive officer Lily Clifford, linguist Brooke Larson, who previously worked on Amazon's AlexaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and engineer Ares Geovanis. The $24 million round followed an earlier $5.5 million seed round.
The company powers nearly 100 million phone calls each month for clients including the Mayo ClinicDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Dialpad, and is targeting healthcare, finance, airlines, and food service. "A generic model with a custom prompt is not your voice. It's a rental with your logo on it," Clifford said.
The numbers Rime points to: Prism responds to the first audio input in roughly 0.57 seconds. On the τ-Voice benchmark, which simulates customer-service calls, Prism scored 56.6 — ahead, Rime says, of real-time models from OpenAI and Google that do not reason first. In a trial with RevmoDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Prism completed order placement 94% of the time, against 57% for an OpenAI model.
What could go wrong? The performance figures are company claims. Rime has not disclosed the size or methodology of the Revmo trial, so the results are not independently verified.
The signal: Prism is a meaningful product step in a crowded enterprise voice-AI market, where control, compliance, and reliability increasingly matter more than raw fluency. Its significance will depend on broader customer deployments and independently verifiable results.
