Try Dealroom →'s Eve ONE Fund III, a venture fund backing early-stage companies in new mobility, energy and supporting digital infrastructure. The fund's focus spans electric mobility, autonomous driving, battery technologies, energy storage, renewable energy, robotics and digital solutions, with a China nexus.

Who's involved? The fund is managed by NIO Capital, founded in 2016 to invest in energy, automobiles and deep technology. Its portfolio includes CATL, Pony.ai, MomentaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Black Sesame Technologies.

Why now? AIIB approved the commitment on December 18, 2025, under its Venture Capital Investment Program for Green and Technology-enabled Infrastructure. The program channels private capital into green and technology-enabled infrastructure, from mobility and energy storage to smart grids and robotics.

What's the endgame? AIIB wants to help early-stage technologies scale and attract further private money. "Through this investment, AIIB aims to mobilize additional private capital to help promising technologies scale up the development of more sustainable infrastructure," said Kim-See Lim, AIIB chief investment officer 1.

Between the lines: The investment builds on AIIB's earlier backing of Eve ONE Fund II, which closed at about $400 million in 2022. The new $10 million is a contribution to a venture fund — not a direct investment in NIO or a single project — and is modest relative to the prior fund.

"We are honored to deepen our strategic partnership with AIIB through Eve ONE Fund III," said Ian Zhu, managing partner at NIO Capital. "We will continue to identify and nurture visionary entrepreneurs who are leveraging cutting-edge technologies to revolutionize the mobility and energy sectors."

The signal: A multilateral development bank writing early-stage venture cheques underscores a shift toward using public capital to pull private money into decarbonization and digitalization. For AIIB, the bet is less about the dollar amount than about seeding technologies — and partners — that can reshape how infrastructure gets built.
