FutureMeds buys Bulgaria's Hera as Oracle, IQVIA deepen trial-tech ties

What's the deal? FutureMedsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has acquired Medical Centre Hera, a Bulgarian clinical research group, for an undisclosed sum, expanding its trial footprint across Sofia, Plovdiv, Montana and Kyustendil. The deal is one of three announcements reshaping how clinical trials get run and staffed.

What does Hera bring? Since 2019, Hera has supported more than 100,000 patients and taken part in over 200 clinical trials. Its network of more than 70 specialists spans cardiology, respiratory medicine, neurology, dermatology and more, adding central nervous system capabilities and patient referral pathways to FutureMeds' European reach.

What changes? Hera will continue under founder and director Emil Kostov with its current operating model. FutureMeds will initially support IT, feasibility and central operations, while sponsors and contract research organisations (CROs) gain a broader investigator network and decentralised trial services.

What else is moving? Oracle signed a non-binding agreement with AstraZeneca to explore using AI and real-world data to identify trial-eligible patients and speed up evidence generation. AstraZeneca brings therapeutic expertise; Oracle brings health data, cloud and AI. Initial areas include oncology, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, respiratory and rare diseases — but there are no financial terms.

And the third? IQVIA expanded its partnership with Veeva Systems, adopting Veeva's CTMS, eTMF, Study Startup and Site Connect as enterprise standard applications across its clinical studies. The move extends an earlier electronic data capture (EDC) partnership and makes the full Veeva stack available to sponsors through IQVIA.

The signal: Together, these deals point to consolidation around trial execution and patient access rather than a single breakthrough. The strongest concrete gains are in deeper software integration and geographic reach; whether the Oracle-AstraZeneca AI effort delivers measurable results remains to be seen.
