Harlem Children's Zone buys fintech platform Goalsetter to scale economic mobility

What's the deal? Harlem Children's ZoneDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → (HCZ), one of the US's leading anti-poverty organisations, has acquired Goalsetter, a financial education technology platform. Terms were not disclosed.

What does Goalsetter do? It delivers technology-enabled financial learning to help people build money skills and confidence. Its products include Goalsetter Classroom, a curriculum for middle and high school students, and MoneyLingo, a mobile-first tool covering saving, investing, credit, and debt for college-aged students and workers.

Why now? The deal advances HCZ's Wealth Builds–Universal Economic Mobility strategy, a national framework to help families build long-term security through cradle-to-career support, financial education, and direct access to capital.

What's the endgame? HCZ plans to expand Goalsetter's offerings to younger learners, aiming to create a continuous financial learning journey from early childhood through adulthood. Goalsetter founder Tanya Van Court joins as chief fintech officer.

HCZ began as a one-block pilot, grew to over 100 blocks in Central Harlem, and now works with more than 70 communities across the US. "We know that economic mobility is a two-generation challenge," said chief executive officer Kwame Owusu-Kesse.

The signal: Owusu-Kesse frames the acquisition as proof that non-profits need not choose between mission and scale. "Social impact organisations should not have to choose between mission and scale," he said, positioning the deal as a bet on technology and AI as infrastructure for economic mobility.
