Karta AI raises $3M seed to automate complex BFSI calls

What's the deal? Karta AI, an Indian agentic-AI startup, has raised $3 million (US$3.8M) in a seed round led by PeerCapital and Cedar Hill Capital. Wyser VC, CDM Capital, and Seedstars also joined.

What's the endgame? Founded in 2024 by former Razorpay executives Vijaypal Singh and Abhishek Kushwaha, Karta runs an omnichannel platform across voice, chat, email, and WhatsApp. It targets complex inbound customer queries at banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) firms — the kind that span multiple enterprise systems rather than routine FAQs.

The startup focuses on level 2 and level 3 queries, which it says account for roughly 80% of customer service costs despite being a minority of volume. It claims its agents resolve about 70% of borrower queries without human intervention, cutting cost per query by about half.

What's the traction? Karta says it handles around 2 million conversations a month across more than 25 languages, with 10-12 paying customers including PhonePe, Bajaj, and Aavas. High-risk cases, such as fraud, are routed to human agents.

What's the money for? Karta will spend the funds on go-to-market and distribution over two years, plus product development in areas such as self-learning AI, Singh told Inc42.

The signal: The raise lands amid a surge in Indian voice-AI funding, which one estimate puts at $329 million through August 2026, up from $12.9 million a year earlier. Rivals are circling the same niche — Navana.ai raised US$5.43M in September and GreyLabs AI US$11.5M in October — making demonstrated results in regulated, high-volume workflows more decisive than the "agentic AI" label.
