IP firm HGF acquires France's Cabinet Marconnet to expand European reach

What's the deal? HGFDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, an intellectual property firm, has acquired French patent practice Cabinet Marconnet for an undisclosed sum. Founder Sébastien Marconnet and paralegal Samuel Grynwald will join HGF's Paris office.

Why now? The deal extends a push into France that HGF began in February 2021, when it opened its Rennes office under Vivien Verbrugge, who still leads the French team. It opened a Paris office in December 2024 and added patent partners Laurent Barbe and Dr Benoît Liénard in September 2025.

Who's joining? Marconnet, an industrial property consultant authorised before the European Patent Office, founded Cabinet Marconnet in 2012 after more than nine years at a Paris IP firm. His practice focuses on mechanics, electronics, and software, with expertise in automotive, aerospace, and connected technologies.

What's the endgame? HGF wants to build one of Europe's leading IP practices. "France is a strategically important market for HGF and this acquisition represents another significant milestone in our continued European growth strategy," said chief executive officer Martyn Fish.

What changes? The new team will work across HGF's European network, advising clients on technology, engineering, life sciences, chemistry, trade marks, and IP law. Marconnet's background in transport, aerospace, and advanced engineering adds depth in sectors HGF calls strategically important.

The signal: The acquisition reflects steady consolidation in Europe's IP services market, with firms buying boutique practices to broaden technical coverage and geographic reach rather than building from scratch.
