ScribeUp raises $10M to embed bill control in banking apps
What's the deal? ScribeUpDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, which embeds recurring-bill management into banking apps, has raised a $13 million Series A — $10 million in equity plus a $3 million venture-debt facility. Curql CollectiveDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a fintech investment firm built for credit unions, led the round, with Mucker Capital and Service VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → participating. The company announced the raise to coincide with the Money20/20 conference in Las Vegas.
What's the endgame? ScribeUp provides the financial infrastructure for what co-founder Jordan Mackler calls the "recurring economy" — subscriptions, buy now, pay later, rent, and insurance. Its tools let customers find, cancel, and update recurring payments from inside their bank's app, and now serve more than 60 financial institutions.
What's the AI play? Founded in 2020, ScribeUp once tracked only hundreds of common merchants. With agentic AI, it can now track some 200,000 unique subscription billers and flag services priced above competitive rates.
Where the money goes: Much of the funding will back hiring, technology, and go-to-market work, including improving the agentic tools. "The task of an individual is too cumbersome to optimize your bill relationship," Mackler said. "That's where we come in."
Why now? The Series A marks a sharp step up from ScribeUp's $3 million seed round in 2023, when it pivoted from a consumer app to embedded, bank-facing software. Curql president and CEO Nick Evens said institutions want to deliver bill control themselves "rather than lose this financial relationship to over-the-top consumer apps."
What could go wrong? The category is drawing bigger players: Visa launched an issuer subscription-management service with Pinwheel in 2026. ScribeUp will have to compete against payment-network offerings that come with far broader distribution.
The signal: Banks and credit unions increasingly see subscription and bill management as a way to deepen app engagement and keep customers from drifting to standalone tools. ScribeUp's raise is a vote of confidence in embedded finance — but a round of this size signals an early-stage bet in a market the payment networks are now entering too.
