India's Seasmasters raises $5M to launch tech business school Supergrad

What's the deal? Seasmasters Consulting has raised $5 million to build Supergrad, a technology business school designed to teach engineers, technologists, and aspiring founders how to build and scale companies. The New Delhi venture was announced on October 19, 2026.

What's the endgame? Supergrad wants to close a gap the founders see in education: India produces vast engineering talent, but few programs prepare technologists to run companies. The curriculum promises hands-on business building over theory — covering customer discovery, go-to-market, fundraising, and scaling.

Who's behind it? Co-founder Ankur Mukherjee brings more than 15 years across edtech and other sectors, with stints at upGrad, Unacademy, Vedantu, and Amity University. Co-founder Abhishek Mishra is a three-time founder.

Mukherjee says he has scaled monthly revenues from US$108.6K to US$4.75M in 18 months and built verticals to US$16.3M in annual recurring revenue within a year. The founders plan to pair the school with an ecosystem linking learners to founders, operators, and investors in India and abroad.

Why now? India's edtech sector is in a far more selective funding climate. Equity funding fell to $249 million in 2025 from $572 million in 2024, and a Tracxn-based report put 2026 funding at $214 million through August.

What could go wrong? The announcement alone does not establish traction. Investors are still backing career-focused learning — upGrad raised $38 million in 2026 — but the market now rewards demonstrable outcomes over growth at any cost.

The signal: Against a shrinking funding pool, a $5 million raise for a leadership-training venture is sizeable. Its significance, though, will hinge on whether Supergrad can show credible learner and career results.
