Why now? It employs about 70 permanent staff and has completed more than 200 projects in the past two years.

What's the money for? The funding will let Ambrey Baker expand its team and scale the business. "After almost 40 years in business, we are entering an important new phase in the company's development," said Baker. He added that the goal is to become the "go to" company for capital projects across complex regulated industries.

The signal: Mercia's Hannah Tapsell-Chapman said the investment will help "establish Ambrey Baker as one of the leading independents of its type." Recent work includes a production hub in Telford for pet food maker Different Dog and a warehouse conversion in Leicester for Samworth Brothers — signs of steady demand for specialist industrial builds in regulated sectors.
