Berkshire Hathaway pours another $330M into Bending Spoons

What's the deal? Bending Spoons has raised $330 million from Berkshire Hathaway in a private placement, lifting Warren Buffett's conglomerate to a 4% stake in the Italian app maker. Berkshire first invested $600 million at Bending Spoons' July 2026 initial public offering.

The terms: The company will issue 10 million ordinary shares at $33.00 each. The deal remains subject to customary closing conditions; Bending Spoons filed the details with the Securities and Exchange Commission in a Form 6-K on 14 October and expects the transaction to close in Q4 2026.

The market reaction: Investors cheered the second cheque. Bending Spoons shares jumped about 35% on 14 October, trading around $51 according to Reuters, well above the $33 placement price. Reuters, citing LSEG data, said the stake makes Berkshire, now led by chief executive Greg Abel, the company's sixth-largest investor.

What's the endgame? Bending Spoons buys digital businesses, overhauls them, and reinvests earnings into more acquisitions. Its portfolio includes Airtable, AOLDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Brightcove, Eventbrite, Evernote, Tractive, Vimeo, and WeTransfer.

Why now? The money is earmarked for more deals. "Our pipeline remains strong," said co-founder Francesco Patarnello, adding the investment will "enhance our financial flexibility and ability to pursue attractive acquisitions."

The fine print: Chief executive officer and co-founder Luca Ferrari called Berkshire "among the finest and most respected capital allocators in the world." Bending Spoons says it has run its buy-and-transform strategy for over a decade and has never sold a material business.

The signal: The round sits in the top 5% by size among private placements for Italian mobile-app companies over the past four years. A second cheque from Berkshire — a famously patient investor — hands Bending Spoons both capital and a credibility stamp as it hunts its next targets.
