Bending Spoons is behind four of Europe's biggest US acquisitions
Bending Spoons, the Milan-based software group, made four of the ten largest acquisitions of US venture-backed startups by European companies: Airtable, Miro, AOL and Vimeo, $6.8B in total and 26% of the $25.8B across the ten. No other European buyer appears more than once. The largest deal remains Just Eat Takeaway.com's $7.3B purchase of Grubhub in 2020, then Viagogo's $4.1B purchase of StubHub in 2019. Six of the ten were announced since the start of 2025, so the list is being rewritten quickly. Two of the ten are biotech deals, argenx buying Forte Biosciences and Genmab buying ProfoundBio. Values are reported deal or equity values and include announced transactions; the Miro purchase is agreed, not closed. Airtable is shown at the $2.25B the announcement implied for shareholders, including net cash; the agreed business value was $1.285B.
