NKN Media raises $4.08M to shift from distribution to original IP

What's the deal? NKN MediaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised US$3.84M (around $4.08 million) in an early-stage round led by investor Dhiraj JainDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, who takes a 5% stake. The deal values the UAE-based media company at US$76.7M.

What's the endgame? NKN Media is moving from a media distribution model towards developing original, scalable intellectual properties (IPs). CEO and managing director Majid Abdul Khan said the aim is to create formats "that can generate long-term value, travel across markets and build stronger consumer and brand engagement."

Why now? Khan points to rapidly shifting media consumption and a landscape fragmenting across television, digital, and streaming. The company sees room to build formats that connect audiences across India, the Middle East, and international markets.

What's the money for? Beyond capital, Khan said Jain brings "entrepreneurial experience, business networks and an understanding of building scalable ventures." NKN Media plans to use the backing to form new partnerships and expand beyond the UAE.

The company is positioning Dubai as a launchpad, citing the city's connectivity to India and global business communities. Over the next three to five years, Khan said priorities include building an IP portfolio, expanding international partnerships, and entering new markets.

The signal: The round sits around the middle of comparable early-stage deals by size, modest in absolute terms. But it reflects a wider bet on the UAE as a media hub and on original IP as a more durable asset than distribution rights.
