Spectrum Equity closes oversubscribed $2.5B Fund XI
What's the deal? Growth equity firm Spectrum Equity has closed Fund XI, raising $2.5 billion in an oversubscribed, single close. It is the firm's largest fund since its 1994 founding.
What's the endgame? Spectrum will keep targeting fast-growing, capital-efficient, founder-led companies across software, artificial intelligence, and data services. Fund XI typically writes checks of $25 million to $250 million into founder-owned companies with little or no prior institutional capital.
Who's backing it? The fund drew long-standing limited partners alongside several new investors. More than 50 Fund XI investors are founders, executives, or board members of companies Spectrum has backed.
Why now? "AI is creating unprecedented opportunities to deliver new value for end customers," said managing director Ben Spero. He added that it is "also a period of rapid change and competitive pressure" that could fuel new partnerships.
