Biren raises ~$515M in placement to scale next-gen AI chips

What's the deal? Chinese AI chipmaker Biren Technology (6082) is raising about US$488.4M (roughly $515 million) by placing 130 million new H shares under a general mandate. The placement price of US$3.76 marks a 9.8% discount to the prior trading day's close of US$4.16. China International Capital CorporationDealroom has a profile for this one. What does Biren do? It is a Chinese supplier of general-purpose AI graphics processing units and full-stack computing solutions, focused on high-performance AI chips.

Where's the money going? About US$339.7M will fund strategic supply-chain procurement, production, and commercialisation of next-generation products. Another US$96.7M will go to research capabilities and its software ecosystem, with the remaining US$48.4M for general corporate purposes.

The fine print: The placed shares represent about 5.0% of existing issued share capital, or 4.8% after the placement. Net proceeds come to about US$485.9M after fees. The deal is expected to close on or before October 15, 2026.

The signal: At roughly $515 million, the raise sits in the 91st percentile among China enterprise-software post-IPO equity rounds over the past four years — a sign of how much capital domestic chipmakers are drawing as China pushes to build homegrown alternatives to foreign AI hardware.
