Japan's AIBORN secures MDV backing for medical records AI tool
What's the deal? AIBORNDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Tokyo-based developer of the medical records AI tool "Katanashi," has raised funding from Medical Data Vision (MDV), the operator of one of Japan's largest clinical databases. The two companies announced a capital and business alliance in October 2026.
What does the product do? Katanashi transcribes conversations from consultations and conferences, then uses AI to summarise them in formats such as SOAP and draft medical records. It supports documentation for doctors, nurses, and other staff, covering patient information sharing and conference notes.
Why now? MDV has acted as a Katanashi sales agent since August 2025, distributing the tool to medical institutions. The investment formalises a relationship that was already generating sales.
What's the endgame? AIBORN built Katanashi to cut the burden of keyboard entry so clinicians spend more time with patients and teams. The name plays on "katakata," the sound of typing the company wants to eliminate.
The partnership will deepen cooperation across product development, distribution to medical institutions, and post-deployment support. Both companies say they aim to ease documentation workloads and expand use across more facilities.
The signal: Pairing an AI documentation startup with a major clinical database operator reflects how Japan's healthcare sector is turning to automation to tackle administrative strain on medical staff.
