About Medical Data Vision

Medical Data Vision (MDV) is a Japanese healthcare technology company established in August 2003 by founder Hiroyuki Iwasaki. The company was founded to address the lag in information technology within Japan's medical field by leveraging large-scale, real-world data to improve healthcare quality.

MDV's business model operates on two core pillars: Data Network Services and Data Utilization Services. The Data Network Services division provides hospital management support systems, such as "EVE" and "Medical Code," to medical institutions. These systems, for which MDV charges initial installation and monthly maintenance fees, assist hospitals with data management and analysis. Through these services, and with permission from hospitals and individuals, MDV accumulates anonymized medical and health information, building one of Japan's largest medical databases.

The Data Utilization Services division leverages this extensive database. It provides anonymized, analytical data sets to pharmaceutical companies, research institutions, and insurance companies. Key offerings include the "MDV analyzer," a web-based analysis tool sold on an annual subscription basis, and ad-hoc survey services priced per project. This division enables clients to analyze drug distribution, treatment effectiveness, and patient journeys. Additionally, MDV offers a Personal Health Record (PHR) service called "Karteco," which allows individuals to manage their own health and medical information.
