Occam raises €3.8M to scale drone autonomy tech from Ukraine to NATO

What's the deal? Occam, a British-Ukrainian defence technology company, has raised €3.8 million in early-stage venture funding to scale software that gives military drones autonomy. The round was led by Danish fund North VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, with Finnish Sparkmind and British Grenadyr joining.

What's the endgame? Occam builds AI that lets combat drones fly missions on their own — resistant to electronic warfare, and working even without any link to an operator. The software installs on drones from different manufacturers without hardware changes, runs on a low-cost computing unit, and integrates via the company's Occam Ludus platform.

Where does the money go? Into research, development, and a larger engineering team in Ukraine. Occam also plans to speed up deployment, expand integrations with drone makers, and enter defence markets across Europe and NATO countries.

Why now? The technology is already being tested with several Ukrainian manufacturers and military brigades. "Today, Occam technology is already undergoing active deployment and testing with several Ukrainian manufacturers and military brigades, and feedback from the front directly impacts the product," said Guy Wainwright, co-founder and chief executive officer.

Occam currently operates in London and Kyiv.

The signal: Onboard autonomy is becoming the defining battleground for military drones, as jamming and lost connections blunt operator-controlled systems. Occam's raise — modest but above the median for its stage — reflects investor appetite for software that turns off-the-shelf drones into autonomous weapons, with the front line in Ukraine serving as the proving ground.
