NatWest lends Housing Plus Group £250 million for affordable homes

What's the deal? NatWest has agreed £246 million in new debt facilities with Housing Plus GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a not-for-profit housing association, to fund affordable homes and community investment across Shropshire, Stafford, Telford and Wrekin. The package combines a revolving credit facility, a term loan, and a dedicated social loan.

What's the endgame? Housing Plus Group manages more than 33,000 homes, spanning social and affordable rented housing, shared ownership, supported housing, and care services. The blended facilities give it flexible, low-cost capital to build new homes, upgrade existing ones, and sustain support services.

Why the mix matters: Interim chief financial officer Richard Nowell said the combination of revolving, term, and social loans creates "a robust and agile funding platform," letting the association respond to changing conditions while focusing on value and sustainability.

Chief executive Wayne Gethings said the funding gives the group "the financial capacity and flexibility to invest in new homes." NatWest acted as lender and structuring bank, tailoring the facilities with the association's treasury team.

The signal: The deal fits NatWest's push into UK social housing — it provided more than £25 billion to housing associations between 2018 and 2025, and aims to deliver a further £10 billion by the end of 2028. As a debt round, its size ranks in the 41st percentile, a substantial but not outsized commitment reflecting steady bank appetite for the affordable-housing sector.
