What does it build? The healthtech startup develops SOMNAR, a noninvasive platform that assesses airways in patients with untreated obstructive sleep apnea. It uses a facial patch to map a user's anatomy during natural sleep, pinpoint the root cause of airway obstruction, and suggest therapies.

By the numbers: The round beat the company's $2 million goal and follows a $435,000 pre-seed raise in 2024. It ranks in the 75th percentile by amount among comparable rounds.

What's the money for? Chief executive officer and co-founder Meagan Pitcher says the funding will support clinical site expansion, FDA-facing work, and continued product development. "What I'm most excited about is what this lets us do next: expand our clinical testing, work with more patients and physicians, and keep improving based on what we learn," she said in a LinkedIn post.

Why now? SOMNAR received Breakthrough Device Designation from the Food and Drug Administration in April, a status meant to speed development and review. The device remains investigational and is still pending FDA clearance.

The signal: Female-focused and Houston-based investors are backing early-stage healthtech tied to regulatory momentum, a bet on turning a research-stage diagnostic into an approved clinical product.
