Denmark's Sovera raises $610,000 to build sovereign AI cybersecurity

What's the deal? Danish cybersecurity startup Sovera SecurityDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised €535,000 (US$586.7K, or roughly $610,000) from the Danish Export and Investment Fund (EIFO). The company is building AI-native security infrastructure designed to keep sensitive data and critical decisions under European control.

Who's behind it? Sovera was founded by Søren Laustrup, who previously founded LogPoint. It runs its own data centre, where its GPUs power an AI-native security platform that combines automation with human expertise.

What's the endgame? Sovera works with critical infrastructure operators and mid-to-large enterprises where compliance, secure data handling, and governance matter most. The funding will develop its AI capabilities and infrastructure, expand the team, and strengthen its presence across Denmark, the Nordics, and the wider European market.

Why now? Europe remains dependent on non-European providers for several strategic digital technologies, sharpening the focus on digital resilience and supply chains. New regulatory requirements and the spread of AI are pushing organisations to ask where their data is processed and who controls it.

In their words: "AI will become fundamental to security operations, but organisations also need to know where their data goes, how AI is used and who ultimately controls critical security decisions," said Laustrup, chief executive officer and founder. "We believe Europe needs its own security solutions built around those requirements."

The investor view: EIFO sees the deal as a way to back Danish technology in an area of growing strategic importance. "Denmark has strong foundations for building world-class cybersecurity companies, and Sovera is a compelling example of a company with both the ambition and capability to compete internationally," said Lars Horsholt Jensen, head of SME startup and innovation.

The signal: Sovereignty is becoming a core selling point in European cybersecurity, not just a compliance box. Backing from a state-linked fund like EIFO shows how governments are betting on homegrown security infrastructure to cut reliance on foreign providers.
