NorthStar to go public via Viking SPAC merger, debuts on NYSE American

What does NorthStar do? The Montreal-based company provides Space Situational Awareness (SSA) and Space Domain Awareness (SDA) services, tracking the position of space objects to improve spaceflight safety. It calls itself the first commercial service to deliver space-based SSA and SDA capabilities internationally, with operations in Luxembourg and New York.

Why now? NorthStar targets what it describes as "the ever-growing threat of space collisions" as satellite traffic climbs. As part of closing, Viking will move its listing from the New York Stock Exchange to NYSE American.

What's the endgame? The SPAC route gives NorthStar a public listing and access to capital markets to scale its collision-avoidance data services.
