Mavi exits stealth with $4M seed to place overseas accountants at US firms

What's the deal? MaviDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a platform that helps US companies hire finance and accounting professionals from other countries, has exited stealth mode and disclosed a $4 million seed round led by Harlem Capital. The company raised the round last year but kept it quiet until Monday.

What's the endgame? Founded in 2023, Mavi uses artificial intelligence to source and onboard specialists within a few days. It focuses on long-term hiring for mid-level and senior roles to supplement in-house finance teams, and handles cross-border contracts, legal and compliance procedures, and payroll.

Why now? Co-CEO Molly Liu said the US accounting profession is shrinking, and some existing specialists lack the skills to apply AI. Employers, she added, hesitate to hire abroad because of onboarding complexity and doubts about qualifications.

What's the pitch? Liu believes automation will absorb more entry-level finance tasks, deepening the shortage of mid-level specialists as fewer workers gain experience over time. Companies, she argues, will still need experienced professionals to make decisions in critical processes — people who can guide AI tools, verify results, and integrate large language models into workflows.

The platform has more than 3,000 accounting professionals on its books. Its corporate clients include personal care products company Athena Club.

The signal: Mavi's round sits in the top tier for its category — around the 92nd percentile among all-time US seed rounds in jobs recruitment, based on a sample of 2,002 deals. That points to investor appetite for startups betting that AI reshapes hiring rather than replacing skilled workers outright.
