What's the endgame? Founded in 2024 by chief executive officer Edoardo Tarricone, chief operating officer Marco Cortinovis, and chief technology officer Alessandro Vaccarino, Complaion pairs proprietary technology with certified lead auditors and compliance specialists. It aims to become an all-in-one compliance provider for SMEs, expanding into Health & Safety, Privacy & GDPR, subsidised financing, and DPO-as-a-service.

By the numbers: Complaion says its platform automates up to 80% of manual compliance work and cuts certification times by up to five times. Its offering covers standards including ISO 9001, ISO 27001, and ISO 42001, along with European rules such as the US$0.51 Directive and the AI Act.

Where the money goes: The funding will fund hiring, stronger customer support, further platform development, and expansion across Europe. Its customers already span manufacturing, healthcare, construction, logistics, agri-food, and software.

Why it matters: Tarricone frames compliance as an opportunity rather than a hurdle. "We will continue expanding our offerings to serve an ever-growing number of SMEs in Europe and make compliance easier, effortless and reliable," he said.

The signal: At €13.5 million, the round ranks among the largest seed deals ever recorded for an Italian enterprise software startup — in the top 1% of 303 comparable rounds. As European regulation tightens around data, AI, and ESG, demand for tools that make compliance manageable for smaller firms is climbing.
