Anchr raises $5.8M to automate food distributors' back offices

What's the endgame? Founded by childhood friends Smayan Mehra and Tzar Taraporvala, Anchr aims to build an end-to-end AI operating system for the sector. Its agents embed directly into a distributor's workflows, automating administration and covering order intake, forecasting, procurement, and inventory.

What does the product do? The platform unifies sales, operations, logistics, inventory, and finance into a single layer, turning fragmented ERP data into real-time visibility. Anchr says users see 99% fewer errors and 30% more margin, and have saved more than 15,000 hours. Its Order Intake Agent projects $350,000 in annual productivity gains.

Why now? Food distributors move most of the food people eat, yet the trillion-dollar industry still runs on manual workflows and decades-old systems. Climate disruption, an ageing workforce, and tighter regulations are adding pressure across the supply chain.

What's next? Though it started in food, Anchr says its tools now reach other industries that buy and move physical products, including industrial and maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) supplies. The fresh capital will fund efforts to modernise distributors' back-office functions.

The signal: Anchr's raise reflects investor appetite for AI agents that target unglamorous, labour-intensive corners of the physical economy. As margins compress and workers grow scarce, software that automates back-office operations is emerging as a wedge into legacy supply chains.
