Numeral lands $100M Series C to expand AI tax compliance

What's the deal? Numeral, an AI-powered sales tax compliance platform, has raised US$64.7M Series C led by Insight Partners. Salesforce Ventures, Geodesic, Benchmark, Mayfield, FCVCDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Y Combinator, and Uncork also joined the round.

What's the endgame? Numeral will use the money to accelerate product development, expand into industries including software, manufacturing, distribution, and wholesale, and grow its engineering, sales, marketing, and product teams.

The platform supports businesses across the sales tax lifecycle — from nexus monitoring and registrations to filings, remittance, and exemption certificate management. It also covers VAT and GST compliance in more than 90 countries and connects to over 40 billing, financial, and enterprise resource planning systems.

Why now? Sales tax rules keep shifting as companies buy and sell in new ways. California, for example, recently passed a law extending sales and use tax to prewritten software, including SaaS, starting in 2027.

By the numbers: Numeral reported a 327% year-over-year jump in total transaction volume and expects to process more than 80 million transactions through its tax engine. Customers can cut time spent on filings and registrations by up to 80% and reduce manual spreadsheet work and filing errors by up to 95%.

"Sales tax has become a much bigger operational challenge as companies grow across markets, systems and business models," said Sam Ross, co-founder and chief executive officer of Numeral. "Businesses need infrastructure that can keep pace as rules and requirements change across jurisdictions, without adding more manual work for their teams."

Insight Partners managing director Rebecca Liu-Doyle said the firm tracked the space closely before backing the company. "Sales tax is mission-critical to get right, and the complexity is only growing as regulations expand into new products and markets," she said.

The signal: The round sits in the top 10% of all-time US fintech Series C deals by size, a sign of investor appetite for compliance infrastructure as AI makes it viable to automate work that once required specialist teams.
