Accenture Ventures backs AI process-mapping startup Within

What's the deal? Accenture (NYSE: ACN) has invested in Within, an AI platform that maps, enhances, and automates business processes, through its Accenture VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → arm. The two are also partnering to help clients deploy AI agents and lift productivity. The deal was announced on September 23, 2026.

What does Within do? Its platform captures how employees work across applications and tracks undocumented offline steps — handoffs, exceptions, and workarounds. That data feeds Within's "Work Brain," a continuously updated context layer that AI agents draw on to run tasks across finance, HR, sales, IT, supply chain, and more.

Why now? Enterprise AI spending is climbing, but returns are lagging. Accenture's Pulse of Change survey of more than 3,000 C-suite leaders found 82% are raising AI investment, yet only 23% report widespread, sustained value — down from 32% earlier this year.

The gap it targets: Real day-to-day processes are rarely documented, so AI often lacks the context to work well. Within is built on a private, sovereign architecture designed for data privacy, positioning it for regulated industries.

What they're saying: "One of the most persistent challenges in AI transformation is that organizations often don't have a clear picture of the starting point," said Jason Dess, Accenture's Industry and Process Reinvention lead. Within CEO and co-founder Andrew Antos added that AI "works best when there's a system of record of work to provide visibility on what to automate."

The endgame: The partnership pairs Accenture's AI delivery scale and industry relationships with Within's work-to-agent platform. The aim is to move clients faster from process discovery to agent deployment and operating-model change.

The signal: As enterprises struggle to turn AI spending into results, the bottleneck is shifting from models to context — knowing how work actually gets done. Accenture's bet on Within reflects a broader push to build the operational foundation agents need before automation can scale.
