Ekai raises $1.7M pre-seed to fix enterprise AI's missing business context

What's the deal? EkaiDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Cambridge, Massachusetts platform that turns analytical data and expert knowledge into business context for AI, has raised $1.7 million in a pre-seed round. MisneachDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → led, with participation from C10 LabsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →.

Where the money goes: Ekai will use the funding to accelerate product development, scale its go-to-market operations, and deepen platform integrations.

What's the endgame? Ekai argues that AI fails inside businesses because it lacks business context, not because the models are weak. It positions itself as an augmentation layer where human experts define what data means and AI handles the mechanical translation into production infrastructure.

The company calls its approach forward-engineering: start with domain experts, treat their input as ground truth, then convert it into machine-readable business logic, checking each output against the data warehouse before it ships.

Why now? Ekai says the industry works backward, inferring meaning from dashboards, query history, and dbt projects rather than asking the people who know. "Reverse-engineering from existing BI dashboards, query history, your dbt project, is asking the exhaust pipe what the engine was thinking," said co-founder and chief executive officer Moatassim Aidrus.

Co-founder and chief AI officer Hussnain Ahmed points to the gap in foundation models. "They know the term active user; they have no idea what it means in your company or where it lives in your data warehouse," he said.

The numbers: Ekai says semantic modelling that has historically taken teams three to six months has been completed by its process in as little as six hours, at a fraction of the cost. It frames the gain as verification rather than pure speed — the result of not having to guess and re-guess what data means.

The three founders — Aidrus, Ahmed, and Tero Miikki — each spent more than two decades in leadership roles at AccentureDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Microsoft, and UPMDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. "They aren't guessing at the problem Ekai solves; they watched it go unsolved from the other side of the table," said Mark Coffey, co-founder and managing partner at Misneach.

The signal: The round is modest — sitting around the 32nd percentile for deal size — but it lands as enterprises, analysts, AnthropicDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and GartnerDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → converge on a shared diagnosis this year: the models aren't the problem, the missing business context is. Ekai's bet is that keeping an accountable human in the loop, rather than trusting unverified AI output, is what turns that context into something companies can run on.
