Verda hits €160M Series B, becomes Finland's newest unicorn

What's the deal? Helsinki-based Verda has raised €163 million in an oversubscribed Series B led by Emergence Capital, valuing the AI infrastructure company at $1 billion. The round drew Tesi, Supermicro, MUFG Innovation Partners, 6 Degrees Capital, Varma, Lifeline Ventures, and byFounders, among others.

What's the endgame? Founded in 2020, Verda builds a full-stack AI cloud that gives organisations and developers high-performance computing capacity on demand. It manages the entire stack, from compute to platform services and AI research. The new money will fund capacity expansion, product development, and support for enterprise customers globally.

By the numbers: Verda's annualised revenue run rate has reached $165 million, the company said. The figure roughly matches the size of the round itself.

Where it's growing: Verda has opened offices in London and San Francisco, with further international expansion planned. The moves push a Finnish company deeper into the US and UK markets as it chases global AI demand.

Why it stands out: The round ranks in the 98th percentile among all-time Series B hardware rounds in Finland, based on a sample of 626 deals. That places Verda near the top of the country's hardware financings.

Why now? Tesi first backed Verda in 2025 and has followed on through multiple rounds, part of a state-backed push to build domestic ownership in high-growth tech. "Verda is demonstrating remarkable pace as it scales full-stack AI cloud globally, and these are still the early steps," said Samppa Sirviö, investment manager at Tesi.

The signal: Tesi aims to seed six to eight new unicorns in Finland during its 2025–2029 strategy period, following ICEYE, IQM, and Bluefors. Verda is the newest name on that list — and a bet that European players can hold ground in the global AI infrastructure race.
