China's Yitu Technology raises nearly $15M for smart-car software push
What's the deal? Yitu Technology has raised close to US$13.8M in a Series B round, the company announced in September. The round was co-led by the Shanghai Semiconductor Equipment and Materials Industry Investment Fund and Sands Talk Capital.
Who else joined? Shenzhen Jiupai Capital Management and Jiangsu Jinqiao Private Fund Management participated. Existing backer Hefei Baohe District Science and Technology Innovation Fund added to its stake.
What does it do? Yitu builds middleware for intelligent vehicles, including a service-oriented architecture (SOA) communication framework and related development, simulation, and validation tools. It pitches these as an end-to-end solution for next-generation electronic and electrical architectures.
What's the money for? Yitu plans to scale up AICAR, its product line, and advance a next-generation version built around self-developed on-device models. The company also intends to expand its multi-terminal strategy, push into global markets, and strengthen its research, delivery, and hiring across multiple locations.
Why now? The re-raise comes quickly on the heels of an earlier round, a sign of sustained investor conviction. The continued participation of an existing backer reinforces that read.
The signal: Automotive middleware sits at the heart of the industry's shift to software-defined vehicles, and China's carmakers are racing to control the underlying architecture. A backer list dominated by semiconductor and regional innovation funds points to how tightly domestic capital is now bundling chips, software, and mobility.
