Axio BioPharma raises $2.4M to link pharma manufacturing data across companies

What's the deal? Axio BioPharmaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has closed a $2.4 million pre-seed round to build software that keeps manufacturing data connected as drug programs move between pharma companies and their manufacturing partners. Elmstead Partners, Chisos Capital, the Chemical Angel NetworkDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and a group of angel investors backed the round.

What's the endgame? The Madison, Wisconsin startup's core product, Axio Lattice, links manufacturing information across companies while each keeps its own systems and data ownership. The funding will support initial Lattice deployments and continued work on Rosetta, its mapping layer that reconciles differences in terminology, structure, and context between organisations.

Why now? Pharma companies have digitised research and manufacturing internally for years, but handoffs between a sponsor, a manufacturing partner, and a testing lab still rely on documents, spreadsheets, and manual data mapping.

"Some of the hardest problems in biomanufacturing show up in the handoff between companies," said Justin Byers, founder and chief executive officer. "A pharma sponsor can have great systems and a manufacturing partner can have great systems, but the exchange between them is still surprisingly manual work."

Between the lines: Axio's technology is grounded in Axio Forge, its research-grade monoclonal antibody lab in Madison. Its first Lattice node runs at Forward BioLabsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, where Forge is based. The company plans to work with design partners on workflows where cross-company data gaps cause the most friction, including tech transfer and investigations.

Lattice is also built to let AI models work with a fuller picture of a program while the underlying data stays in place.

The round follows a stretch of partnership activity. Axio recently named Ansa Biotechnologies its preferred gene synthesis provider, partnered with The BioForgeDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and was selected for Batch 3 of the Plug and Play Lifetech accelerator.

Ray Jordan, managing director of Elmstead Partners, called Axio "one of Elmstead's highest-conviction investments" across its portfolio of 71 private life sciences companies, citing "the need for a better way to work across the organizational boundaries that define modern biomanufacturing."

The signal: At $2.4 million, the round sits in roughly the 32nd percentile by amount — modest capital for a pre-seed bet on the plumbing between biopharma partners rather than the drugs themselves. It reflects growing investor interest in the connective infrastructure that keeps an increasingly fragmented manufacturing ecosystem coordinated.
