PyroCCS raises seed round to scale its biocarbon and carbon removal supply chain

What's the deal? German tech firm PyroCCSDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has closed its first external funding round, securing equity from Lotus One Investment, CounteractDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and private investors. The seed capital will fund the global rollout of its industrial biocarbon, biofuels, and carbon removal supply chain.

What's the endgame? PyroCCS processes low-value biomass into biocarbon, bio-oil, baseload power, and durable carbon removals using its Gravity Series plants and Sarva Plant Operating System. The system connects integrated digital monitoring, reporting, and verification (dMRV) to carbon registries including Isometric, Puro.earth, and Carbon Standards International.

The company aims to generate multiple revenue streams from a single feedstock, optimising project economics for biomass owners and securing long-term offtake deals with buyers in steel, metallurgy, refining, and aviation.

Where the money goes: The funding will advance PyroCCS's pyrolysis technology, support projects across Africa, Asia, and the Americas, and expand product qualification with industrial off-takers. Its flagship PyroNam facility in Namibia already turns invasive bush into marketable carbon products and baseload power.

"By generating multiple products from biomass through our easily deployable systems, we offer some of the hardest-to-abate sectors a clear path to cost parity with the fuels and carbon inputs they use today," said chief executive officer Timo Herbrand. "Biomass owners around the world are waking up to the value their biomass holds, but no one is putting the pieces together."

Why now? The round follows a carbon removal credit purchase agreement with Tencent, secured after PyroCCS won a place in the tech group's CarbonX 2.0 initiative.

"What drew us to PyroCCS is that they treat this opportunity as the industrial commodity challenge it is," said Andy Bonsall, co-founder and partner at Counteract, citing the company's "credible and deployment-ready pathways."

The signal: Demand for high-quality biochar is tightening, with much of this year's premium supply already committed. PyroCCS is betting that stacking multiple products onto one feedstock is the way to make carbon removal projects financeable at scale.
