HealthCap backs Sweden's Amra Medical to scale MRI muscle and fat imaging
What's the deal? Amra Medical has raised early-stage venture funding led by HealthCapDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, one of Europe's leading life science venture capital firms. The Swedish company uses MRI-based technology to measure muscle and fat, producing standardised biomarkers for clinical research and healthcare.
Why now? The round lands as quantitative MRI gains importance in understanding how fat distribution and muscle composition affect disease, treatment response, and patient outcomes. Metabolic and neuromuscular medicine are increasingly shifting toward precise, biomarker-driven data over conventional measures like weight and BMI.
What's the endgame? Amra plans to use the money for research and development, product innovation, and international commercial expansion. Built on more than 15 years of research, the company wants to move its technology into broader clinical and research use.
"Our next phase is about translating years of scientific validation into broader clinical and research impact," said Olof Dahlqvist Leinhard, chief executive officer of Amra Medical.
Who's backing it? HealthCap has invested globally in life sciences since 1996, backing more than 130 companies and taking 48 public. Dr. Mårten Steen, managing partner, will join Amra's board.
"AMRA combines differentiated technology and strong scientific validation with clear relevance to critical areas of medicine and unmet medical need," Steen said.
The signal: As clinicians demand better data to track patient progress and treatment effects, standardised imaging is becoming a core tool for trial design and outcome measurement. HealthCap's bet positions Amra to serve that growing demand at scale.
