Alpha Dhabi commits $1B to Alpha Wave III after SpaceX, OpenAI exposure

What's the deal? Alpha Dhabi Holding, listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, has signed an agreement to commit $1 billion to Alpha Wave III, a venture capital fund managed by Alpha Wave Global. The fund is expected to invest globally in AI and high-growth businesses developing transformative technologies.

Why now? The commitment follows Alpha Dhabi's participation in Alpha Wave Ventures II, which gave the group indirect exposure to SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic. Its stake in that prior fund was valued at US$3.66B as of June 2026, after a sharp rise in reported fair value.

What's the endgame? Alpha Dhabi manages more than 250 public and private investments across 45 countries, with a global workforce of 95,000. The new fund, it said, offers access to structural growth themes through "a specialist platform focused on long-term value creation."

Group chief executive officer Hamad Al Ameri said the move "supports our portfolio diversification objectives and our focus on long-term value creation."

How will it pay? Alpha Dhabi plans to finance the commitment by recycling cash distributions from Alpha Wave Ventures II, alongside existing resources. Capital will be deployed over time in line with the fund's investment programme.

What could go wrong? The gains on the earlier fund are largely valuation-driven and should not be confused with realised cash returns. Alpha Dhabi said returns will depend on the performance of underlying investments, realised through distributions and exits over the fund's life. The commitment also remains subject to any applicable approvals.

The signal: The allocation extends Abu Dhabi's broader push to deploy capital into AI and digital infrastructure — a drive that also includes MGXDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s reported $49 billion in commitments for its first fund. For now, though, the new fund's target, terms, and expected returns remain undisclosed.
