MoonPay acquires trading startup Rhythm in eighth deal in two years

What's the deal? FinTech company MoonPay has acquired Rhythm, a crypto trading startup, for an undisclosed sum, according to a September 2026 release. Rhythm's technology and its three co-founders — Joseph Murphy, James Miller and Lincoln Barnett III — have joined MoonPay.

Who are they? MoonPay is a global FinTech company that moves value across fiat and digital assets, connecting traditional payment rails with blockchains to power ramps, trading, commerce and stablecoin infrastructure. Rhythm's platform helps users discover opportunities, execute trades and manage risks in fast-moving markets.

Why now? The two firms already had close ties. Rhythm was the first recipient of an investment from MoonPay Labs in 2025, and its platform integrates with MoonPay's Top Up widget to simplify fiat onboarding.

When announcing that early backing, MoonPay called Rhythm "one of the most complete answers we've seen" to the challenge of surfacing and acting on trading opportunities in a single app.

What's the endgame? The acquisition folds Rhythm's trading experience — which lets users discover tokens, track markets and act fast without juggling multiple apps — into MoonPay's infrastructure. Co-founder James Miller said in a LinkedIn post that Rhythm was acquired "after just 8 months of building."

The signal: This is MoonPay's eighth acquisition in two years, following Glide, Entendre, Dawn Labs, DFlow, Sodot, Meso, Iron and Helio. The buying spree points to a company assembling a full-stack crypto and stablecoin platform through consolidation rather than building each piece in-house.
