The five-year financing, signed in Hanoi, will fund the Vietnamese lender's green credit portfolio.
Where does the money go? Proparco's funding will prioritise renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate change adaptation, and green building projects. Nam A Bank plans to channel the capital toward SMEs, women-owned businesses, and sustainable agriculture models.
Why now? The deal concretises a memorandum of understanding the two parties signed in Paris in March 2026, after Proparco completed its assessment and know-your-customer checks on the bank. It marks the first result of Nam A Bank's "Green Finance Community" initiative, launched at the Vietnam International Finance Centre in Ho Chi Minh City.
What they're saying: "This credit, fully dedicated to climate goals, reflects our shared ambition to address climate change in a country particularly vulnerable to climate hazards," said Jean-Benoit Du Chalard, Proparco's regional director for North and Southeast Asia.
The signal: The quick move from March MOU to signed financing points to growing appetite among European development institutions for backing green finance in Vietnam. For Nam A Bank, the deal ties its "Digitalisation and Greening" strategy to international capital and tighter environmental and social risk standards.
