Positron raises $875M Series C at $5B valuation for inference chips

What's the deal? Positron AI has raised an $875 million Series C at a $5 billion post-money valuation to bring its next-generation inference silicon to market. What's the company building? The Reno, Nevada-based startup makes "memory-first" inference systems designed to serve AI models more cheaply and efficiently. Its chips run on commodity LPDDR5X memory, sidestepping constrained HBM and CoWoS supply chains.

What does the money fund? The capital fully funds the tapeout of Asimov, Positron's next-generation silicon; a 2MW-plus engineering data center; and the production ramp of its Titan system. Asimov tapes out on TSMC's N3P process at the end of 2026, with production in the second half of 2027.

Who else is in? The financing came in two tranches: a $375 million Series C at a $3.5 billion pre-money valuation, and a Series C-1 of up to $500 million led by NEA and Jim Clark. Why now? AI's centre of gravity is shifting from training models to running them, and serving that demand at scale is increasingly constrained by memory capacity, bandwidth, and power. Positron is already deploying more than 50 racks of Atlas, its first-generation system, at Oracle Cloud InfrastructureDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →.

What's the endgame? Titan combines four to eight Asimov chips into a single system, designed to serve models beyond 16 trillion parameters and context windows beyond 10 million tokens in one node, scaling to thousands of nodes. "Our focus now is to tape out Asimov, bring Titan to production, and scale manufacturing to meet the demand in front of us," said chief executive officer Mitesh Agrawal.

The signal: The round ranks among the largest Series C financings ever raised by a US semiconductor company, sitting in the top 1% of 334 comparable deals. It reflects investor appetite for inference-focused silicon that challenges the memory supply bottlenecks constraining the AI hardware market.
