One Biosciences lands €3.3M grant to bring single-cell cancer diagnostics to clinics

The grant, awarded via the fifth 2026 i-Démo call, will back the CAST project (Cancer Single-cell Analysis for Therapy), a four-year program run with Institut Curie.
What's the endgame? The company wants to bring OneMap, its single-cell tumor profiling platform, to market as an in vitro diagnostic test. It would be the first single-cell diagnostic designed to guide treatment for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC).
Why now? TNBC accounts for roughly 15–20% of breast cancer cases, with high relapse rates and few treatment options. Clinicians still lack reliable biomarkers to predict which patients respond to immunotherapy or chemotherapy — current diagnostics average signals across millions of cells, masking the tumor heterogeneity that drives resistance.
OneMap combines single-cell transcriptomics and AI to analyze tumors cell by cell, delivering clinically actionable reports within two weeks from standard hospital biopsies. Early joint studies have already generated high-quality single-cell data from routine TNBC biopsies and identified cellular signatures tied to immunotherapy response.
Where the money goes: The CAST program targets four areas — industrializing OneMap, validating predictive biomarkers, preparing for regulatory approval, and scaling One Biosciences' centralized clinical lab in the Paris region for commercial deployment. The project will draw on Institut Curie's cohort of more than 300 TNBC patients, set to become the world's largest clinically annotated single-cell dataset in the disease.
"This funding is a defining milestone for One Biosciences and the progression of single cell technology into the clinic," said Hedi Ben Brahim, chief executive officer of One Biosciences. "CAST accelerates the path from breakthrough science to a scalable commercial product."
The signal: At €3.3 million, the grant sits in the top 6% of AI grant rounds in France, a sign of state appetite for turning single-cell research into deployable clinical tools. As France 2030 funnels capital into applied AI healthcare, techbios spinning out of research institutions are becoming a favoured route to move lab breakthroughs into routine care.
