H1 buys Defacto Health in third acquisition in two years
What's the deal? H1 has acquired Defacto HealthDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a healthcare data company focused on provider network intelligence, to expand its offerings for health plans. The transaction was a mix of cash and stock, and the value was not disclosed.
Who's who? H1 runs an AI-powered platform that helps pharma, health plans, health systems, and technology companies identify and engage the right doctors. Defacto aggregates and analyses payer networks, provider directories, and medical demographics data, helping plans assess directory accuracy and benchmark their networks.
Why now? The two companies have been longstanding partners, making the acquisition "a natural extension" of their relationship, according to Ariel Katz, co-founder and chief executive officer of H1. Defacto will operate as part of H1, with co-founders Ron Urwongse and Tarun J. Theogaraj joining the company.
What's the endgame? Katz said patients' top complaint — half of H1's support tickets — is asking which insurance a doctor accepts. "We thought this was a core competency that we needed to get better at," he said, noting H1 already licensed data from Defacto.
The deal marks H1's third acquisition in two years. It bought Ribbon Health in early 2025 to broaden its reach into health plans and digital health, then acquired Veda Data Solutions later that year to build out provider data automation for payers.
By the numbers: H1 claims 85% of the top 20 pharma companies and nine of the 10 largest health plans as customers. In May, CVS Health VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → backed a $40 million investment in H1, which is working with CVS on a joint AI roadmap to improve its provider directory.
The signal: H1 is consolidating fragmented provider data assets as demand grows for accurate doctor information to power AI workflows and directory accuracy — a problem regulators, including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, are pressing plans to fix.
