Kitronyx raises $1.5M Series A for industrial pressure sensors

What's the deal? KitronyxDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised a 2 billion KRW (about $1.5 million) Series A, the South Korean maker of industrial pressure-mapping and quality-inspection systems said. The round came from a fund managed by ID VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and from the Industrial Bank of Korea (IBK)Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →.

Who's backing it? ID Ventures invested through its "IDV Global Next Unicorn Fund." As an existing backer, it followed on from an earlier round, a signal of continued confidence in the startup's technology and growth prospects.

What does it do? Kitronyx builds an electronic pressure-sensitive system that measures pressure distribution in real time and turns it into data. Unlike traditional film-based pressure paper, its results can be stored and managed quantitatively — useful in precision manufacturing such as batteries, semiconductors, and displays.

It is running verification and mass-production projects with major Korean corporates and manufacturers.

What's the money for? The company plans to strengthen production through its manufacturing technology institute and land its ongoing mass-production projects. It also aims to expand supply of its pressure-mapping solution to manufacturing sites at home and abroad.

What's the endgame? Kitronyx is developing a combined sensor that measures pressure and temperature at once, targeting early detection of battery thermal runaway in electric vehicles. Longer term, it is exploring robotic touch sensing and applications for what it calls the "Physical AI" era.

"This investment is significant in that our accumulated sensor technology and business potential in the field have once again been recognised," said chief executive officer Jang Wook (translated from Korean).

The signal: The round is small next to other recent Korean sensor and semiconductor deals — Point2 Technology raised 192 billion KRW in a Series B, while autonomous-mobility firm Moove raised $250 million at a $2.1 billion valuation. Kitronyx's raise ranks in the bottom fifth by size, a reminder that hardware startups tied to manufacturing validation often scale on smaller, staged capital.
