Verisure buys smart-intercom startup Kivala for €6M
What's the deal? VerisureDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a group specialising in connected security and remote monitoring, has acquired French startup KivalaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → for €6 million. Kivala makes a connected intercom that generates single-use entry codes to secure apartment-building doors.
Why now? The deal comes just two and a half years after Kivala was founded and 18 months after it launched commercially. "In our strategic plan, we envisaged a sale rather five to seven years after founding," said founder Jonathan Lascar, who previously ran Bpifrance's hub. (translated from French)
What's the endgame? Kivala's technology issues one-time codes to delivery drivers, cleaners, or plumbers that work only once. Lascar said the surge in deliveries and Airbnb rentals had turned buildings into "sieves," creating a genuine security problem — especially where medical practices are based.
What changes? For Verisure, the deal extends its reach to the building entrance. "This technology allows us to extend our security promise to where it must begin: the building door," said Alex Froment-Curtil, managing director of Verisure France. Lascar and his teams are joining the group.
The traction: Kivala launched in November 2023 and now serves 10,000 users — mostly building owners, but also landlords and hotels. Its 2025 appearance on the TV show Qui veut être mon associé? boosted visibility and helped it raise €800,000. "With the show, we generated a year's revenue in a month," Lascar said.
The signal: The exit reflects a shift back towards hardware after a cooler run for SaaS platforms, with Kivala pitching itself as an industrial startup building a software-driven connected intercom. Rather than raise fresh funds to scale, it chose Verisure's offer to move "faster and stronger."
