About Verisure

The story begins in 1988 in Sweden, not as a startup, but as a division within the security company Securitas AB. Founded by Dick Seger and named Securitas Direct, the initial mission was to tap into the growing demand for monitored alarm systems for homes and small businesses. This focus on a direct-to-consumer model was a strategic departure from the parent company's traditional guarding services. The business quickly found its footing, expanding across Europe in the 1990s. A key moment arrived in 2006 when Securitas Direct was spun off from its parent company and listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange, becoming an independent entity. The consumer-facing part of the business was later rebranded to Verisure in 2009. A new chapter began in 2011 when the company was acquired by private equity firms Hellman & Friedman and Bain Capital. This marked a period of accelerated growth and international expansion into Latin America. In 2015, Hellman & Friedman bought out Bain Capital's stake, becoming the majority shareholder and continuing to drive the company's expansion. Under private equity ownership, Verisure has grown to serve over five million customers across 17 countries, becoming a leader in the European security market.
