Kiri raises hundreds of millions of yuan to turn the real world into 3D

What's the endgame? Kiri runs two product lines: Remy, a consumer app for recording 3D spaces, and KIRI Engine, a tool for professional 3D users and commercial use. Both do the same thing — turn real-world objects or spaces into 3D content from photos and video — but Engine stresses precision and editing, while Remy targets ordinary phone users.
Why now? Remy is the company's main consumer push over the past year. It launched on HuaweiDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s HarmonyOS in October 2025, and founder and chief executive officer Wang Zhengnan says it "broke 1 million downloads in nine days," reaching about 2.8 million cumulative users and nearly 700,000 monthly actives.
The team began work on 3D reconstruction in 2021 and shipped KIRI Engine in 2022, serving mostly overseas professionals in 3D printing, game development, and film effects. The company says Engine has drawn more than 2 million professional 3D creators. Both products reuse 3D Gaussian Splatting, a technique that rebuilds scenes using many colored ellipsoids rather than traditional meshes, capturing complex light and detail.
What could go wrong? Wang says 3D recording remains too slow to become a daily habit. "It's not as simple as taking a photo or a video; you have to walk around it, then run it in the cloud for several minutes," he says. The team plans to keep compressing the capture and reconstruction steps.
Kiri's recording tech has also moved into hardware. This year it partnered with Insta360, letting users convert panoramic footage into interactive 3D spaces inside Insta360's app. Panoramic cameras capture 360 degrees at once, making it easier to reconstruct large scenes without gaps.
The signal: Wang frames Kiri's bet against the rise of generative AI, which can now conjure 3D models from text. His view: AI handles creation, but reconstruction captures things that actually happened — a family reunion, a dorm before graduation. The harder-to-replace value, he argues, lies in faithful records of the real world, and in first-mover advantage that pulls users toward incumbents.
