WeTravel buys Tourwriter after $92M raise to chase luxury travel operators

What's the deal? WeTravel has acquired Tourwriter Limited, a New Zealand software company built for luxury tailor-made tour operators and destination management companies (DMCs). Terms were not disclosed. Both platforms will continue running separately, with WeTravel investing in Tourwriter's development.

What each company does: WeTravel builds an operating system for travel operators, serving more than 10,000 travel businesses and over 8,000 partners across every continent. Tourwriter's software targets companies that design bespoke, one-off trips for individual clients rather than selling seats on scheduled departures.

Why now? The deal closed nearly a year after WeTravel announced a $92 million Series C round from Sapphire Ventures, Left Lane, Base10, and Cross Creek. It follows WeTravel's expansion last year into the APAC market, where Tourwriter was founded.

What's the endgame? WeTravel is positioning itself in the $271 billion experiences market, and Tourwriter deepens its push into custom travel. Tourwriter brings 23 years of expertise and more than $1 billion in itineraries sold over the past two years.

"From the first time I met Glenn and the team, it was clear Tourwriter is a special organization, with deep expertise and strong product-market fit," said Ted Clements, chief executive officer of WeTravel.

The signal: Demand for custom luxury trips is rising. WeTravel's 2026 Annual Trends Report found 56% of operators saw increased interest in custom luxury bookings in 2025, and its established custom and luxury organisers saw bookings rise 16% and dollar volume jump 31% year-over-year in early 2026 — a pull that is driving consolidation among the software firms that serve them.
