MemeBitcoin raises $8M to scale its race toward Satoshi's wallet

What's the deal? MemeBitcoinDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → (MBTC), a Bitcoin-native project that turns the race to reach Satoshi's wallet into a public game, has raised $8 million in an early VC round. Try Dealroom →, and Mayer Venture backed the deal, announced September 1, 2026.

What's the endgame? Through its web app, users generate and test candidate private keys against Satoshi's public key, complete missions, and share content, with each action logged as a contribution. No tokens are pre-allocated to the team; the entire supply is distributed through participation.

MBTC has two stated goals: pressure the industry to move Satoshi-era coins somewhere safer, or reach them first using its community's collective effort.

Why now? An estimated 1,096,361 BTC sits in Satoshi-era wallets whose public keys have been visible on-chain since 2009. Progress in quantum computing has turned that long-theoretical exposure into a live concern.

"Quantum computing is the problem crypto has spent fifteen years assuming someone else would solve later," said co-founder Rodney Uesaka. "If those keys are ever broken, the industry Bitcoin created is what stands to lose the most."

By the numbers: MBTC reported 23,700 total users and 18,350 daily active users as of late August 2026, all without paid advertising. It has passed 2.4 million wallet decryption attempts, with most growth coming from referrals.

What's the money for? The round funds a whitelist early access phase, a global campaign, a full public launch, and preparation for spot and futures listings on centralized exchanges.

The signal: MBTC packages a genuine cryptographic risk — quantum threats to exposed early Bitcoin keys — into a participatory campaign, and investors are betting the community, not the code, is the asset. Whether that translates into exchange listings will test if viral engagement can survive the shift from game to token.
