InsuranceDekho, RenewBuy merge to build pan-India insurance platform

What's the deal? Indian insurtech startups InsuranceDekho and RenewBuy have agreed to merge, creating a pan-India insurance distribution platform. The combined entity booked over Rs 6,600 crore in insurance premiums in FY26 and will operate under the InsuranceDekho brand.

Who runs it? Ankit Agrawal, founder of InsuranceDekho, will lead the unified business. Founders of both companies will stay on to ensure continuity in leadership and execution.

What's the rationale? The merger pairs InsuranceDekho's presence in northern and western India with RenewBuy's network in the south. Together they cover 98.57% of India's pin codes, count more than six lakh digital partners, and have facilitated over two crore policies since inception, as of March 31, 2026.

"This combination brings together complementary strengths in technology, on-ground distribution and insurer partnerships," said Agrawal. "Our immediate focus is disciplined execution and seamless integration."

What's the endgame? The merged company plans to lean on technology for automated partner onboarding, integrated policy issuance, and AI-powered advisory. RenewBuy CEO Balachander Sekhar said the goal is to "bring insurance within reach of every Indian."

Both startups are based in Gurugram. InsuranceDekho offers 750-plus products from 52 insurers across motor, health, life, travel, and corporate insurance, and is backed by Beams Fintech Fund and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group. RenewBuy is backed by Dai-ichi Life Holdings.

The signal: The deal signals consolidation in India's crowded insurtech sector, where scale and distribution reach are becoming key differentiators. By combining regional strengths and digital partner networks, the merged entity aims to compete as a national player in insurance distribution.
