Randa acquires Untuckit, targeting $200M-plus brand as next US classic
What's the deal? Randa Apparel & AccessoriesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → is acquiring Untuckit, the men's shirt brand founded in 2011 by Chris Riccobono and Aaron Sanandres. Terms were not disclosed. Both founders will remain to run day-to-day operations, and their team will stay intact along with the brand's SoHo offices.
Who's who? Untuckit has estimated sales of $200 million to $250 million and operates about 70 US stores, plus e-commerce and wholesale to retailers such as MacyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s and Von MaurDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. Randa, founded in 1910 as a neckwear manufacturer, holds accessories licenses for more than 40 brands, including Calvin Klein, Levi's, and Tommy Hilfiger.
What's the endgame? Randa will run Untuckit as a stand-alone business. "This will be a stand-alone business. We are not integrating it," said David Katz, Randa's executive vice president and chief marketing officer. The goal, he said, is to build "the next classic American brand."
Why now? Randa is a wholesaler with limited consumer data and wants to engage directly with shoppers. It plans to draw on Untuckit's expertise in e-commerce, brick-and-mortar retail, and consumer data. "We need to balance our wholesale leadership with direct-to-consumer expertise," Katz said.
The deal follows Randa's steady shift from accessories into apparel. It acquired HaggarDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Tribal FashionDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → in 2019, Moss Bros.Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → in 2020, and XIX PalmsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → last year, while expanding accessories with Totes Isotoner in 2024.
What could go wrong? Untuckit has faced pressure over the past five years from the pandemic, high interest rates, and tariffs. "But we continued to succeed because we have a strong brand," Riccobono said.
The signal: Most fashion M&A now runs through brand management firms such as Authentic Brands GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, WHP GlobalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and Marquee. Randa's move shows strategic buyers with cash still compete for scarce assets — as Katz put it, "there are not a lot of classic American brands that can scale."
