Blue Arbor raises $10.2M seed to bring natural control to prosthetic limbs

What's the deal? Blue Arbor Technologies, a US medical device startup building neuroprosthetic interfaces, has filed to raise $10,174,987 in a seed round, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company is led by chief executive officer Noel Borton.

What's the endgame? Blue Arbor builds implantable neuromuscular interfaces that detect voluntary nerve and muscle signals and translate them into naturalistic, multidegree-of-freedom movements of prosthetic hands and arms. Its first product, the RESTORE External Sensing Unit, is a wearable device connected to fine percutaneous wires that collects motor commands and relays them to a receiver in the prosthetic hand. The result: simultaneous finger and wrist movements that conventional control systems can't deliver.

Why now? The company says its technology rests on more than 20 years of research into nerve regeneration, prosthetic interfaces, and rehabilitation after limb loss, backed by over $55 million in research funding. The seed round marks a shift from that scientific foundation toward commercialisation.
