What's the endgame? Founded in 2020, the company started by automating collaboration between investors and their portfolio companies. It has since built a single source of truth for portfolio performance, with automated data ingestion and AI tools that streamline portfolio reviews, valuations, LP reporting, and diligence.

By the numbers: Standard Metrics says its business has grown roughly 20-fold since its Series A. Its platform now supports more than 10,000 portfolio companies and 150 firms managing over $400 billion in assets, and it counts 30% of the current Forbes Midas List as customers.

The product angle: To meet demand from investors seeking faster, sharper tools, the company has launched AI document parsing, an on-platform AI Analyst, MCP interoperability, and AI-native data and analytics services. The new capital will fund deeper AI capabilities, a bigger team, and wider adoption.

Why now? "The firms who embrace AI now will be the ones defining the next era of the private markets," said co-founder and chief executive officer John Melas-Kyriazi. 8VC, which co-founded the company in 2020, framed the raise as a bet on that shift; its partner Alex Moore pointed to "tremendous opportunity ahead for AI to transform the private markets."

The signal: At $20M, the round sits near the middle of comparable deals — the 58th percentile by size. That places Standard Metrics as a steady rather than headline-grabbing raise, but one riding a broader push to automate the back office of private markets as AI reshapes how investors track and analyse their portfolios.
