RockRose raises $12.5M to fold wildfire mitigation into insurance
What's the deal? RockRose RiskDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, an insurance brokerage that gives property owners discounts for wildfire mitigation, has raised a $12.5 million Series A. Crosslink Capital and Congruent VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → co-led the round, with Nuveen Real Estate participating.
What's the endgame? The company is evolving into a vertically integrated risk manager, combining autonomous property analysis, mitigation services, and insurance in one platform. To do it, RockRose plans to acquire complementary businesses — including tree trimming and roofing firms — so owners can assess risk, complete mitigation work, and secure coverage through a single partner.
Why now? The raise lands amid an accelerating US crisis. According to the National Interagency Fire Center, the 2026 wildfire season has already surpassed the acreage burned in all of 2025, with peak activity still ahead.
Property insurance non-renewals have risen across much of the Western region, including RockRose's three core markets: California, Colorado, and Nevada. It serves HOAs, hotel groups, wineries, farms, municipalities, and commercial real estate portfolios.
What's the product? RockRose's mitigation-first model pairs verified mitigation work with property-level risk assessments to move properties back into the admitted market. That matters in California, where the FAIR Plan — the state's insurer of last resort — faces mounting pressure as major carriers cut exposure in wildfire-prone areas.
"We've proven our model works," said Andrew Engler, co-founder and chief executive officer. "We're making insurance adapt to the rules of a new game: that of a rapidly changing planet."
The signal: The $12.5 million round is a solid mid-market raise, in roughly the top third by size for its cohort. It reflects growing investor appetite for climate-adapted insurance models as fire risk fractures traditional markets. As Congruent Ventures partner Eliza Cushman put it, "Wildfire has fundamentally fractured insurance markets, creating a widespread availability and pricing crisis."
